Reaching those affected by River Blindness
In many parts of Africa, access to clean water is scarce, and indigenous communities often face the devastating effects of waterborne diseases. One such disease, commonly known as “river blindness,” is caused by the parasite Onchocerca volvulus, transmitted through the bites of infected black flies that breed in fast-flowing rivers and streams. This disease causes severe itching, skin deformities, lumps, and, most tragically, vision loss.
The affected tribal communities, including the Pygmies in the Congo and people in Uganda, Burundi, and Zimbabwe rely heavily on orality to learn and communicate since they are unable to read.
MegaVoice International, in partnership with missionaries in the regions, is working to bring encouragement in the form of audio Bibles to these afflicted communities. These tactile devices, filled with Scripture in their tribal languages, bring the hope of Christ to people living in remote and challenging conditions.
